Last night, Bel Canto, an acapella group from Edinburgh performed at Gunsgreen House. Bel Canto specialisein the performance of choral music from the 15th and 16th centuries. In recent years this repertoire has been extended to include music of all periods, including some specially commissioned works. The Group comprises around 12 regular voices although draws on an extensive pool of deputies for the performance of larger scale pieces of music.
Last night they performed a recital consisting of a selection of English Elizabethan madrigals on the theme of Fair Ladies and sundry winged creatures. The songs were interspersed with readings and poems from a variety of literary greats from Robert Burns to Spike Milligan.
The audience loved the evening, which was broken up with an interval of Prosecco and posh crisps. It was an absolute pleasure and privelege to have had Bel Canto perform at Gunsgreen, and we hope to be able to welcome them back again soon.
